Red Shiso [Perilla frutescens]

Red Shiso or Perilla is an annual herb indigenous to eastern Asia but has become naturalized to the southeastern United States, particularly in semi-shaded, damp woodlands.

Through primarily used as a culinary herb in Japanese and Korean cuisine, Perilla is considered warm and acrid in Traditional Chinese Medicine and is used to treat colds, stuffy chests, abdominal pain, stomachaches, diarrhea, and prevent coughs.
