Linden [Tilia cordata]

Linden is used in many cough and cold remedies. The Linden flowers, leaves, wood, and charcoal are all used for medicinal purposes.

Active ingredients in the linden flowers include flavonoids (which act as antioxidants), volatile oil, and mucilage components (soothing and reducing inflammation). The plant also contains tannins that can act as an astringent.

One of the most common applications of linden is a tea made of the tree's sweet flowers, which has been used in folk medicine to promote relaxation, relieve symptoms of anxiety, and promote sweating and productive coughs when a minor illness like a cold takes hold.
