Citronelle [Cymbopogon]

With a strong reputation for repelling biting insects, Citronella essential oil contains volatile oils that irritate mosquitoes.

Citronella oil is made by steam distillation of certain species of grasses in the Cymbopogon group, most commonly Ceylon, Lenabatu, Java, or Maha grass. Lemongrass also belongs to this grouping of plants, but it is not used to make citronella oil.
