Chicory [Cichorium intybus]

Like, Dandelion, the Chicory plant truly is medicine root to flower. You may recognize its family members' leaves like radicchio and endive in your summer salads and its origins in Chicory-based coffees like Cafe Du Monde.

According to the European monograph, traditional use of chicory roots includes relieving symptoms related to mild digestive disorders (such as feelings of abdominal fullness, flatulence, and slow digestion) and temporary loss of appetite.

For this reason, when paired with coffee it can act as a "contra-stimulant," as the french roasteries say - counteracting some for the less fun excitation caused by coffee.
